About

Manzanita

Manzanita's resort beginnings began in the early 1900's when Sam Reed founded the area’s first oceanfront hotel and drinking establishment, the Neahkahnie Tavern and Inn.

By 1914, real estate agents were touting Manzanita and Neahkahnie as “the Carmel of the North.” Portlanders visited Manzanita by train, disembarking in Mohler and then hopping a stage car to the beach.

For centuries prior to becoming a resort town the rocks at the bottom of Neahkahnie Mountain provided a watery fate for cargo ships. In fact you do not need to look too far to find stories of treasure and tragedy for those in searching for hidden 16th century Spanish fortunes.

Incorporated as a city in 1946, it has thrived as a tourism town throughout its history. Boasting seven miles of uninterrupted beach it has attracted artists, musicians and other creative sorts from its earliest days.

Why choose Manzanita?

We love the size of Manzanita compared to towns like Cannon Beach or Seaside. The simplicity of one main street leading straight down to the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and the never crowded miles long beach.

Small enough that you can park your car and never use it again during your stay.

Just enough stores and restaurants provide choice and variety without feeling overwhelming.

Manzanita shows its age just enough. Not shabby. Just enough that if you relax you become aware of the echoes of the past.

It is our great hope that you enjoy a stay, and that you get to experience all the things that we believe make Manzanita a modern day treasure.
